Asha Robertson
Intern
Asha Robertson is a doctoral candidate at Widener University’s Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology (IGCP). She is currently pursuing a dual degree in clinical
psychology (Psy. D.) and criminal justice (M.A.C.J.). She has also completed coursework towards a school psychology certification. Asha’s passion for helping vulnerable populations began around the age of 10, when she started volunteering a her mother’s daycare. That interest has been carried with her throughout her time at Howard University as an undergraduate student studying psychology and administration of justice, and continues as she pursues her graduate degrees. Populations she has historically worked with include at-risk and justice-involved youth, incarcerated individuals, and people with substance use disorders.
Over the years, Asha has participated in many organizations and volunteer opportunities within the communities she has been part of. Her career goals after graduating from Widener’s IGCP include providing psychological intervention, primarily with at-risk and justice-involved youth. One particular experience she found more rewarding was volunteering at a group home for justice-involved boys in Washington, DC where she co-facilitated groups around emotional regulation. While there, she also initiated opportunities for the youth to explore places around the city many of them had not had ever visited such as the National Portrait Gallery and Sculpture Garden.
At Chester Community Coalition, Asha provides therapeutic services to youth and adults in Delaware County. She has also earned a certification as a teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) instructor, allowing her to co-facilitate tMHFA courses for high school students in the surrounding area.
